This visitor center is the central location for five Spanish missions
in the San Antonio metropolitan area. The National Park Service needed
the visitor center exhibits to interpret the history and purpose of the
Spanish mission system in the United States using Spanish Colonial artifacts
in their collection. The exhibit included religious icons, military weaponry,
as well as everyday items made at the missions. Specially designed passive
climate-controlled display cases with fiber-optic lighting systems were
employed throughout the gallery.
