This project involved the adaptive re-use of a historic railroad depot
as a visitor center. The design team had to integrate the architecture,
building systems and the exhibits to create a public facility while maintaining
the historic fabric and appearance of the building. Historic artifacts
and furnishings, interactive displays, dioramas and graphics were employed
to present the natural beauty of the desert as well as the rich history
of ranching, mining and railroading in the Mojave Desert Kelso The scope
of this interpretive project included planning, research and writing,
design, contract documents, artwork production, and construction support.
