Hegenberger
Gateway Project
Hegenberger Road
Oakland, California
Client: City of Oakland, California
(Dillingham Associates, Prime Consultant)
Providing way finding directions and orientation information for visitors
to this former military base converted to a national park was a compelling
challenge. Map, transit, regional history and context, as well as recreational
opportunities had to be provided in a succinct and easily read manner
in this project. A series of 17 kiosk units was developed for sites all
around the 1480-acre park. Additionally, wayside interpretation was developed
for 18 different sites that dealt with natural resources as well as the
Presidio's military history. Transit shelters matching the informational
kiosk design were developed as a part of this system.
