AGATE
FOSSIL BEDS
Agate
Fossil Beds National Monument
Agate Springs, Nebraska
Client: National Park Service
A premier collection of Lakota (Sioux) artifacts forms the basis for this
exhibit about Native American culture. Working with tribal elders, scholars
and artists, an exhibit was crafted that represented an Indian perspective
on this chapter of American history. The fragile artifacts were conserved
and special conservation cases with fiber optic lighting were designed
to house the collection. The gallery was also remodeled to provide a more
stable, climate-controlled environment. A second exhibition about the
famous paleontological digs in the area was also designed. It featured
a 30-foot by 20-foot diorama of prehistoric mammals, and was accompanied
by a series of exhibits displaying fossils found on the site.
